Michael and I never imagined we’d write a book together. In truth, we’ve spent most of our lives trying to figure out the simplest things—how to listen to each other, how to love well, how to live with integrity and faith. Yet here we are, sharing the most intimate journey of our lives in these pages. Not because we’ve figured it all out, but because the act of walking this road together has taught us more than we ever thought possible.

This isn’t a story of perfect love or neat resolutions. It’s messy, raw, and deeply human. It’s the story of two people facing the unthinkable—my diagnosis, my mortality—and learning, one step at a time, how to let go of control, to trust in something greater than ourselves, and to love in ways we didn’t know we could. We didn’t come to this journey as saints. I’ve spent much of my life wrestling with ego, fear, and the desire to keep everything in order. Michael has his own battles—with needing to fix, to protect, to shield himself from the pain of vulnerability. But facing the inevitability of death has a way of stripping us down to what matters most. For us, it meant turning toward each other and toward the Creator, slowly learning to trust that we’re held by a Love far greater than we can imagine.

This book isn’t just my voice; it’s ours. It’s the conversations we’ve shared late into the night, the questions we’ve wrestled with, the prayers we’ve whispered, sometimes through tears. It’s the lessons we’ve learned along the way, not as experts but as fellow travelers.
